2025 - 50 Years - We have been recording for blind and partially sighted listeners for 50 years. From early beginnings onto cassette tapes we eventually progressed in 2010 to digital.

TalkPhone on 01245 910919. The phone line will cut off after 55 minutes in case people
have a "free for one hour" contract. Just dial again to continue listening. All details are given in the introduction when you call the number.
2023 - The Essex Chronicle newspaper is so dominated by photographs, crossword and word puzzles which are not generally suitable for audio. Other local news is included from Brentwood, Braintree, Witham, Maldon and local villages.
Updates are often supplied to The Talking Newspaper from Chelmsford City Council, Essex Records Office, Essex Library Services, Police, Theatres, Essex Highways, etc and these are included where appropriate.

2026 BWBF is now known as Visably providing a wider range of accessible technology and accessibility and confidence-building support for people with sight loss.
BWBF Direct is the trading arm of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund. Its activities are the sales of adapted and non-adapted radio an audio sets. All profits are gifted to the charity.

2023 The British Wireless for the Blind (BWBF) Membership area goes live at the start of August 2023 where listeners are using the Talking Newspaper app on iOS and Android devices. As well as allowing us to support these users better.
The Membership Area requests all users to register and sign in.
A dedicated webpage can be found at - https://bwbf.org.uk/membership/register/, can also be used by anyone supporting the user to complete the registration for them. All the user then needs to do is then sign in once on their device.
This new Speech TN app will have the simple layout we know the users find so supportive. Along with the ability for the user to control the app with their voice, a new favourites feature that has been added allows users to save their favourite newspapers. Finally, the unique command to say “speech off” taking the user back to the much loved simplicity of the gesture mode.
