The British Wireless for the Blind (BWBF) Membership area goes live at the start of August 2023 where listeners are using the Talking Newspaper app on iOS and Android devices. As well as allowing us to support these users better.
The Membership Area requests all users to register and sign in.
To ensure that the transition to the Membership Area is as smooth as possible for the listener, the existing Talking Newspaper app will continue for a short period, before it is eventually taken down at the end of September 2023. This will be replaced with a new Speech Talking Newspaper app, that will be launched at the start of August 2023, which will include the new Membership Area. It will be updated further once this hits App Store and Play Store, both apps will run at the same, the brand new Speech TN app, which will require registration to the Membership Area and sign it to use the app, as well as the old TN app, which will eventually be stopped.
A dedicated webpage can be found at - https://bwbf.org.uk/membership/register/, can also be used by anyone supporting the user to complete the registration for them. All the user then needs to do is then sign in once on their device.
This new Speech TN app will have the simple layout we know the users find so supportive. Along with the ability for the user to control the app with their voice, a new favourites feature that has been added allows users to save their favourite newspapers. Finally, the unique command to say “speech off” taking the user back to the much loved simplicity of the gesture mode.
We are ready to help any users that will need technical support, they can call us on 01622 754757 option 5. Or email suresh@blind.org.uk to talk them through this transition.
